Well known overclockers Marcus “kinc” Hultin and Jon “Elmor” Sandström had a busy weekend at Globe Arena and Dustin’s annual Expo, where they indulged themselves in overclocking the latest hardware. Live overclocking was on the schedule for the majority of Saturday and it resulted in several good scores, including a new official world record in 3DMark Vantage Performance.
The key was Intel’s hexa-core Core i7 980X CPU and ASUS’ own ARES Radeon HD 5970 4GB graphics card. The cooling was liquid cooling, and with four graphics circuits and a processor there were plenty of pots to maintain.
The end result were impressive overclocks of both processor and graphics cards and a final score of P56040 in 3DMark Vantage Performance, which leaves a safe margin on 3,500 points to second place.
Complete system specifications;
- CPU: Intel Core i7 980X @ 6120MHz (-170C)
- Motherboard: ASUS ROG Rampage III Extreme
- Graphics card 1: ASUS ROG ARES (CFX) @ 1180/1265MHz (-25C)
- Graphics card 2: ASUS ROG ARES (CFX) @ 1180/1265MHz (-25C)
- Power supply: Antec 1200W OC
- Memory: Corsair GTX2
- OS: Windows 7 Ultimate X86
Kinc and Elmor also registered the second highest 3DMark06 score, but were 600 meager points to climb to the top.
We congratulate Marcus and Jon to another successful overclocking session and eagerly await more results from our fellow overclockers in 2010.
