Kingston DataTraveler 5000 – Safe enough for Pentagon?

Memory manufacturer Kingston recently introduced a new USB memory with focus on security and heavy data encryption. The new memory, named Kingston DataTraveler 5000, is FIPS 140-2 Level 2 certified and meets the security standards set by the U.S Government. Kingston informs that its new super secure USB memory will be an excellent choice for ordinary companies and common people as well, meaning that you don’t have to be a spy or employed by the military to benefit from the new technology.

Kingston DataTraveler 5000 utilizes a hardware-based 256-bit AES-XTS encryption algorithm from SPYRUS as well as Suite B encryption and ECC (Elliptic Curve Cryptography)

The encryption algorithms used in the new USB memory are specifically chosen by the U.S Defence to make it extremely difficult to retrieve data without the correct password. The memory even keeps track of its own encryption to ensure that nothing has been tampered with. This is done automatically every time the memory is inserted into a USB slot.

The memory comes in several different size flavours, starting from 2 to 4, 8 and 16GB. It measures 77.9 x 22 x 12.05mm and is covered by a titanium-coated, stainless-steel casing.
