Kingston seems to be the first manufacturer that has realized that the biggest problem with the DDR3 technology is the loose timings, which despite the high clock frequencies, makes DDR3 less responsive than DDR2. Kingston has namely launched the first low-latency DDR3 modules with significantly more aggressive timings. Kingston KHX11000D3LLK2 is specified to work at 1375MHz and at this clock frequency the modules will use 7-7-7-20 timings, which are still not very impressive, compared to DDR2, but compared to the other DDR3-1333 modules that are specified at 9-9-9-25 there is a significant difference.
If you reduce the frequency you can get even tighter timings and when they tested the memories at Anandtech it’s pretty clear that Kingston has chosen the right path. The low-latency modules are considerably closer to DDR2 in benchmarks where fast memory access is important.
“Kingston deserves congratulations for being the first to market with low-latency high speed DDR3. Kingston KHX11000D3LLK2 does exactly what it promises and then some. It gives buyers not so concerned about price the DDR3 performance and higher speeds to choose DDR3 for the future.”
