There are two camps among Solid State Drive companies. Those who dive in head first, with some mixed results, and those who let others take the risks and play it safe as the market matures. Kingston already has a big presence on the SSD market but when it comes to the new SATA 6Gbps and USB 3.0 interfaces it is still holding off. Much like Western Digital, Kingston talked about demand and sales volumes, before the new standards have become more common the company will not be releasing any products using these technologies.
They pointed out that regular SSDs will not gain anything from the SATA 6Gbps interface and that we may start to see a wider spread of SATA 6Gbps SSDs by the end of 2010.
It shows more confidence in USB 3.0 and especially together with Solid State Drives that could result in very fast storage solutions, but currently there are no products to show using the new interface and it is waiting for the format to become more common among PCs.
We sincerely hope that motherboard makers realize their responsibility and grant their products support for the latest technologies, now that the chipset manufacturers (AMD and Intel) is in no hurry to it themselves.
