It’s not every day we see a company announce a memory kit and a Solid State Drive with almost the same capacity. That is exactly what Kingston has done by announcing an impressive 24GB DDR3 memory kit for Intel’s Core i7 (LGA 1366) platform with six sturdy 4GB modules. The equivalent kit for Core i5 (LGA 1156) is a 16GB kit with the same 1600MHz DDR3 memory modules.
The price of Kingston’s 24GB memory kit is set to $1,598, while the 16GB kit runs $1,065.
At the same time, Kingston has launched a new model of the SSDNow V series of Solid State Drives. A new entry drive with only 30GB capacity that Kingston markets as a “boot drive” with Windows 7 TRIM supports and costing $109.
Kingston’s SSDNow V Series 30GB Boot Drive is the perfect enhancement for users looking to increase their current desktop performance. It is designed to be used in conjunction with an existing hard-disk drive (HDD). A PC operating system and key applications reside on the SSD while all data such as documents, music, files and photos remain on the HDD.
The 2.5″ drive has specified read speeds of 180MB/s and write speeds around 50MB/s. Since Kingston’s 40GB SSDNowV model cost almost the same in stores, we might expect this one to be priced just a tad bit lower.
