LaCie has a new mobile storages series called Little Disk. The series contains models of both the 1.8″ and 2.5″ format, and storage capacities up to 250 GB. The LaCie Little Disk 1.8″, seen to the right, comes with a storage capacity of 30 or 60 GB and use the USB interface, while the LaCie Little Disk  2.5″ is available from 80 GB up to 250 GB and can be had with both the USB and FireWire interface. None of the drives require any external power. But even though these are some decent specifications, the most appealing of the new Little Disk series is the fact that they’ve been design by UK industrial designer Sam Hecht.

“The LaCie Little Disk is driver-free and pre-formatted for simple, one-step installation across all platforms.  Just plug and play using the integrated, extractable USB cable, or one of the two FireWire ports on the 2.5-inch combo drive.  Once mounted you can access and modify any stored file with ease.  Bundled backup and synchronization software allows important data to be brought back quickly, or enables you to synch the drive with your files, emails, or personal settings.  A simple-to-use shortcut button located on the 2.5-inch combo version facilitates 1-click backup and synchronization, or program it to open your favorite application. For added security, Windows users can protect their data with AES 128-bit encryption.”

The 1.8″ and 2.5″ models without FireWire is available today, and the combo models with both USB and FireWire will arrive later in October.
