LCD response times

X-bit labs made a very nice review of 15″ TFT pixel response times some time ago. Using a home made sensor, they measured the time an LCD screen would need to light one pixel up, and to let it go down again. This method is less subjective than the average “I see some gosting” approach most sites do (notice: we don’t want to offend other sites, but that’s the way I see it).

After the 15″ screens come the 17″-ers. This time, 13 screens were tested. It is becoming a sad trend that most LCD makers don’t supply adequate information with their panels. Warranty is one thing (read this article from Tom’s Hardware), but pixel response time is an other… This time, Sampo was not optimistic enough, they reported worse times than Xbit measured. Apart from NEC, everybody thinks to live in a magical world. Sadly testing dispells the magic…

Upon that, NEC had the fastest response times, but Samsung’s 172B was recommended as well.
