Lenovo unveils IdeaPad S2, detachable screen

We have already seen a tablet with that little extra to make it stand out, namely ASUS Transformer. Lenovo has now announced its own version of the IdeaPad S2 that builds on a similar concept.

The drawback of a tablet is the obvious lack of a keyboard, which makes the productive work of a notebooks quite hard to do with a tablet. ASUS remedied thi with the launch of Transformer, and the successor Transformer Prime. It simply attached a keyboard, which also contained a battery and had some other productive features that could prove useful.

The concept is not new, but the technology is finally up to expectations. Lenovo offers its own version of Transformer, IdeaPad S2. The tablet gets a 10″ screen with 1280 x 800 pixel resolution and IPS panel. System processor is supplied by Qualcomm in the form of MSM8960 with two “Krait” cores at 1.7 GHz, Adreno 225 graphics and integrated LTE/4G/3G. It plans to launch IdeaPad S2 with Google’s new operating system Android 4.0, Ice Cream Sandwich.

IdeaPad S2 also gets WLAN 80.211 b/g/n, Bluetooth 2.1 and GPS for communication, a 3G version will also be available at a higher price and SIM card reader. It sports a Micro-HDMI output and a microSD card reader. The tablet also has a 1.3 megapixel camera on the front and 8 megapixels on the back. The tablet weighs 500 gram and 8 mm in profile.

The docking station, or keyboard to be precise, will offer up to 20 hours of battery time. IdeaPad S2 also gets 2 USB ports and an extra card reader with the docking station. IdeaPad S2 will launch in China immediately, while other countries and regions will follow in the future.
