The Blu-ray format is growing steadily and even if the new High Definition video formats has hardly become the dominator Sony was hoping for. As always with new technology costs are high and thus the prices for end consumers. Blu-ray moves are not cheap and players cost a considerable amount of money. Lite-On hopes to raise interest on the PC market with its new and more affordable iHOS104 Blu-ray player.
Lite-On iHOS104 is an internal player using the SATA interface and offers Blu-ray at 4x speed, DVD at 8x speed and CD at 32x speed. Lite-On’s player is only a reader and has no burning capabilities, which makes it gets by with only 2MB memory buffer and the price can be kept as low as $80.
The player ships with CyberLink TrueTheater HD software for playing Blu-ray and upscaling Standard Definition material to 1080p resolution.
