Logitech has now launched the successor to its very popular diNovo keyboard, which with its slim design and wireless support gained quite a following when it was launched in 2003. Now it is time for a new member of the diNovo family and the keyboard has been named diNovo Edge. Just as earlier Logitech has spent a lot of man hours on the design and Edge is a truly slim keyboard. It’s hardly 2 cm thick (less than 4/5 of an inch) and has a shiny paint that will more often than not catch the attention of both viewers and fingerprints. Like the original diNovo keyboard, Edge is intended for media systems, but also Windows Vista.
Among others there is a dedicated button for opening the start menu of Vista, but also an F button which takes you directly to Vista’s search function. By using a half transparent surface Logitech has made it possible to hide icons for buttons when they’re not used.
“The semi-translucent surface enables the dynamic backlighting of icons embedded within the keyboard, which are invisible without illumination. Pressing the function key illuminates icons for secondary F-key functions, including media controls and application-launch keys. After the function key is released, the icons above the F-keys disappear and the keyboard´s top panel returns to its pristine black state.”
Even if the keyboard is a lot about style and design Logitech has also focused a lot on the functions. Edge has an integrated battery and is charged sitting in its stand. Other interesting features is a touch pad for changing the volume and PerfectTouch for the best possible feeling of the keys. Logitech diNovo Edge looks nice both on paper and in front of the camera, and according to Engadget it is able to live up to the hype.
Those who wants to invest in Edge will have to wait until November and be prepared to pay 199.99 USD.
