Lost Planet 2 benchmark pushes DirectX11 GPUs

Lost Planet 2 was launched a few months ago for Xbox 360 and PlayStation 3, but now the game is heading for PCs and bring a whole lot of DirectX 11 effects. Capcom has released a Lost Planet 2 benchmark that let users test their system.

Capcom’s preview of av Lost Planet 2 was released together with NVIDIA, which far from surprisingly shows off the strong sides of the Fermi architecture with DirectX 11 effects.

The Lost Planet 2 benchmark focuses on tessellation, but also displacement maps for water, bosses and characters. Wave simulation is done with DirectCompute and the test suite weighs in at 955 MB and includes two different tests, and is presented as follows;

Benchmark “A” is a small section of actual gameplay being shown over the course of different sections of the full game. This test is not conducive of a good GPU benchmark because of its random nature and is more suited as a demonstration of what gameplay in Lost Planet 2 will look like in the full game.

Benchmark “B” is designed to be a deterministic and effective GPU benchmarking tool featuring DirectX 11 elements. This benchmark is the tool that should be used for testing performance of competing DirectX 11-capable GPUs.

Beside DirectX 11, Lost Planet 2 also supports NVIDIA’s 3D Vision and 3D Vision Surround, but unfortunately the current drivers doesn’t support SLI, though it is expected to appear soon.
