Mobile processors are hotter than ever before, but thank god not literally and in the lead we have Qualcomm’s Snapdragon chip that has made quite an impression with phones like HTC HD2 and Nexus One. Snapdragon is also used in portable computers, so called smartbooks, which has created new markets for other actors. Marvell wants a piece of the cake and has launched the ARMADA 610 series with clock frequencies up to 1GHz.
ARMADA 610 i based on the ARM v7 architecture and beside a powerful CPU it also has a GPU that enables the circuit to feed a screen with High Definition video at 1080p and 3D graphics through Open GL ES 2.0/1.1 and Open VG.
The circuit is intended to be used with everything from smartphones to e-book readers and smaller computers. If Marvell can keep its word on the performance ARMADA 610 looks like a worthy opponent to Qualcomm Snapdragon.
