Circuit maker Marvell is said to be working on a new series of ARM-based processor circuits for the mobile industry. Armada 628 will be the first SoC in the series sporting three processor cores, enabling Marvell to optimize power consumption during varying workloads.
The unconfirmed information on the Armada 628 circuit mentions nothing about the specific architecture it will be based on, but hopefully we’re dealing with Cortex A9. The processor will already be out for testing at partners, to find possible matching products, e.g. tablets or smartphones.
If Armada 628 comes out around the same time as the dual-core ARM processors; Tegra 2, TI OMAP 4400, etc. we’re eager to see the possible advantages of this third processor core.
