During the weekend Jonas “Mean Machine” Klar and Henry “ME4ME” de Kruijf have been overclocking exclusive hardware in the outskirts of Stockholm. With some support from ASUS and one of two working samples worldwide of ASUS R.O.G. Rampage III Extreme four Radeon HD 5870, three Corsair Dominator GTX2 and one Intel Core i7 980X was put to the test in 3DMark Vantage and several other benchmarks.
Above you can see the system in all of its glory, and it consisted of the following:

Radeon HD 5870 (XFX, HIS, 2x ASUS)
Corsair Dominator GTX2
Enermax Galaxy DXX 1kW + PC P&C Turbo-Cool 860W
The focus was on Futuremark’s 3DMark Vantage and Performance profile where they managed to hit P48843 points after a number of hours of benching. A very impressive result where they got the processor working at 5292MHz and the graphics cards were clocked at 1000/1250MHz.
After that they decided to go for 3DMark 03 since it also uses of the fourth GPU better than the newer 3DMark 05 and 06. There they managed to pull the processor to 5609MHz for 185370 points. They compensated the relatively low CPU frequency with higher QPI and memory frequencies.
When done they removed one card and hit 3DMark 06 where the goal was to break 40000 points and so they with 40539 points. They had to overclocked the GPUs slightly more to get there, 1020MHz.
After that they moved on to 3DMark 05 where the goal was a bit higher, 50000 points, and also there they managed to pull off the job with 50696 points. The exact details surrounding this one are bit foggy since it was done at six thirty in the morning and “awake” wasn’t really the right description to be used at this time.
A vacuum cleaner saved the day when the hairdryer failed and instead of removing the snow just drove deeper into the pot.
