Micron has presented its second generation SATA 6.0 Gbps SSD. Even though most companies are struggling with its first SATA 6.0 Gbps solutions Micron has raised the bar with its RealSSD C400 model, this time with 25nm NAND chips and a fresh Marvell controller.
Micron RealSSD C400 comes with 64GB to 512GB storage capacities with its new memory circuits that is made with Micron’s 25 nm technology. Through its SATA 6.0 Gbps interface and Marvell controller Micron has managed to tweak read performance with 17 percent over the last generatotion C300 series. This means RealSSD C400 reach read speeds up to 415 MB/s and write speeds up to 260 MB/s, which is in turn up to 20 percent faster than the last generation.
Write performance is affected by the number of memory channels, which means performance drops with lower storage capacities where the number of chips are fewer.
Micron RealSSD C400 will be available in 1.8″ and 2.5″ formats and mass production will start in February. Prices were not revealed.
