Microsoft has been open with the fact that it is working on the next generation Windows operating system and in the blogs and data sheets that have been published Microsoft has simply referred to it as Windows 7. Many have asked what the final name of the operating system will be since Microsoft often use code names that are later swapped for the real name on launch day.
With Windows 7 Microsoft decided to move away from this system since the next generation operating system will be called Windows 7 and nothing else. This was revealed by Mike Nash, Corporate VP, Windows Product Management, in the Windows Vista blog where he introduced Windows 7. The reason for going with Windows 7 is quite simple;
“Simply put, this is the seventh release of Windows, so therefore “Windows 7″ just makes sense.”
Mike also announced that it will release more information on the operating system in the upcoming weeks at PDC and WinHEC. We will try to keep you posted on the news and updates on Windows 7.
