Microsoft recently announced that it will invest even more in digital rights management (DRM) technology to protect itself, but also support wireless transferring of musik, video and pictures to mobile phones. At the same time as Microsoft wants to protect digital media and satisfy the Hollywood studios it wants to be able to please the consumers by making it possible to move the media around between various units, which makes piracy a real problem. It has now made large investments in DRM to be able to spread the copyrighted music to many different platforms. “Providing no financial details, Microsoft said only that the investment would prove “significant.” The Redmond, Wash., company claims more than 100 content service licenses and deploys the Microsoft Windows Media DRM platform on hundreds of devices to deliver content securely for playback on computers, mobile devices and portable devices.”
