Xbox 360 Premium is shipped with a harddrive for storing music, demos and other material you can download from Xbox Live. But with a capacity of 20GB it’s hardly an impressive model and with Microsoft’s plans to offer movie downloads and the fact that demos are getting bigger and bigger the space on the harddrive simply isn’t enough. At the same time Sony will equip its flagship of the PlayStation 3 family with a 60GB harddrive. It seems that Microsoft’s answer to this is to launch a new external harddrive for Xbox 360 with a capacity of 100GB, not much compared to regular harddrives but considerably more than what is offered today.

The information comes directly from Microsoft as it has presented the harddrive during a demonstration of new Xbox 360 accessories during an event in Korea. It simply seems to be a replacement for the Premium console’s 20GB harddrive and how Microsoft will market it remains to be seen. We don’t know what it will cost or when it will arrive, but most likely short after that Xbox 360 is launched in Korea at the start of 2007.
