Microsoft has earlier this year given its support to the next generation optical format HD DVD, instead of the competing format Blu-ray. Now it seems that this is far from all what Microsoft is willing to do to make HD DVD the next generation DVD format. In an article over at EETimes Microsoft namely posts plans on marketing the support for HD DVD in its next generation operatign system, Windows Vista. Except for offering a thurough support for HD DVD in Vista rumours are going around that OEM-manufacturers will be offered a discount from Microsoft if they choose to use HD DVD units in their computers.
Microsoft has nothig to say about these rumours where also HP is mentioned more than a few times. HP earlier supported Blu-ray to 100% but has lately switched to also support HD DVD. The format war hasn’t ended before it started as many earlier thought and Blu-ray which has been looking like the strongest of the two candidates may have some problems facing it.
