Microsoft speaks up on the OpenGL support in Vista

0

Before the launch of Vista, Microsoft announced that OpenGl would not be prioritized or even integrated into Vista. This has changed since then and through a new third-party developer, Khronos, we can now look forward to full support in Vista through an ICD (Installable Client Driver). It all comes down to whether AMD/ATI and NVIDIA imagines it’s worth the effort of building an OpenGl driver for Vista. Considering how much work AMD/ATI spent on its latest Catalyst driver to fix the OpenGl CrossFire support, we shouldn’t have that much to worry about. Even if ID Software is one of very few companies using OpenGl as a primary API it is also a company that has made some of the most popular games ever.
