It seems motherboard manufacturer Commell has realized that Intel’s mobile processor Core Duo can handle small spaces and thanks to its low heat dissipation can be used with small systems. Apple has already displayed Core Duo in a minimalistic system with Mac Mini, but now it seems that you will be able to create your very own “mini-system” with Intel’s mobile processor. Commell has namely developed a Mini ITX motherboard for the Core Duo. The motherboard, Commell LD 677DC, use the 945GM chipset and sports everything from a VGA output, Gigabit Ethernet and SATA to HDTV and a PCIe x16 graphics slot. All this on 170x170mm.
Commell LD 677DC is sold together with an external 120W AC power adaptor and the price is about 50 000 yen ($430). If and when similar products will reach outisde of Asia is yet to be seen.
