Mobile phones are sporting ever greater photo sensors and beside the fact that we broke 10Mpixels long ago, the video recording capabilities are starting to improve quite nicely. But according to Sony Ericsson, the capabilities we have today will be nothing compared to what it has planned for the upcoming four years. During a press conference earlier this month Ericsson revealed its thoughts on the future, specifically year 2012, and according to it we’re in for a good ride.

Ericsson not only believes that the image sensors will increase up to between 12-20 megapixels, but also predicts that phones will be capable of recording video in full HD. Phones will be equipped with XGA displays (1024×768 pixels) and house application processors operating at around 1GHz.

Except from the features of the phones, the communication networks will evolve and in four years we will see wireless transfer rates up to 100Mbps (LTE, Long Term Evolution) unlike the HSPA technology of today that allows only up to 7.2Mbps.

Even if we can’t be one hundred percent certain that this is our future, Ericsson should have a pretty good grasp of what is about to come and what it will unveil during the upcoming years.
