High-end mobile graphics has been an a segment dominated by NVIDIA over the last few years. Not that the market is exactly huge, but still important from a PR perspective. Over at German hardware site ComputerBase, they’ve published pictures of a card mounted on Intel’s upcoming Montevina platform, cooled by two massive heatsinks. Although the card was mounted just like a discrete desktop graphics card, and doesn’t show much resemblance to other mobile flavors.
The card is said to be the upcoming Mobility Radeon HD 3870X2. It looks like one big PCB with two RV670 circuits, but if this doesn’t work they can always do what ASUS did and link two or three MXM modules through CrossFireX. The solution performed exceptionally well, and we can only assume that this is a solution for desktop replacement laptops.
Exact specifications are still to be announced. We will just have to wait and see when and inside which laptop Mobility Radeon HD 3870X2 will make its first appearance.
