As we revealed last week AMD has now started to put the wheels in motion before the launch of the next flagship Radeon HD 6990. Sporting dual Cayman XT circuits the card is expected to boost 3072 stream processors and 4GB GDDR5 RAM, a real best that is confirmed by the press pictures that have leaked.
The pictures show that AMD has had to extend the classic Radeon HD 6000 design with a couple of centimeters to make room for both dual GPUs and a hefty memory buffer. The card is expected to consume around 300W, but the cooler is surprisingly similar to those of other performance cards of the Radeon HD 6000 family.
The cooler has a full cover with a central radial fan that should keep the massive GPUs cool. How well it works and what kind of performance we can expect from AMD’s new monster card we should know in the near future.
The card gets four mini-DisplayPort outputs and one DVI output.
