More about the liquid metal cooling paste

Liquid metal was a term used by video card manufacturer Sapphire last year as it was about to launch a card with a cooling system containing liquid metal. This system was never actually taken into production, but as we’ve earlier reported, liquid metal is back. This time it’s as a cooling paste consisting out of liquid metal. The cooling poste is known as Cool Laboratory Liquid PRO and consists out of 100% metal, which in theory gives us an eight times better thermal conduction than other high quality cooling pastes. In the end this should result in better cooling ability according to a diagram at Frozen CPU.com, which sells the cooling paste, that is a few degrees better than ArticSilver5.

There are some cons with Cool Laboratory Liquid PRO, first of all, it’s a bit hard to handle and behaves similar to mercury (quicksilver). Even if it perhaps not as toxic as mercury, it is still not recommended to digest the paste. The paste also conducts electricity, which makes any spill on the motherboard a fatal mistake. Finally you can not use it with aluminum heatsinks as these will be damaged by the paste. At Frozen CPU you can buy 0.15ml of the paste for $19.99 and from what we’ve seen so far the product seems just a little bit overhyped.
