Ultra X3 Modular 2000W is the name of the monstrous power supply Ultra has presented at CES. When we first wrote about Ultra’s plans it was with mixed feelings we reported an output at 2000W for an ATX power supply and now Legit Reviews has received some more information about the power supply. Ultra X3 Modular 2000W uses an extended ATX formfactor which could result in some installation problems but its actually not any bigger than PC Power & Cooling’s 1000W PSU and here you get twice the capacity.
It’s still no baby and as Ultra self points out, practically no one will need 2000W for their computer, but at the same time you’re secure for any future purchases, for a long time.
“When we spoke with Ultra today on the phone they informed us that the first samples of the Ultra X3 2000W PSU just arrived in the United States this week and are currently being tested by Ultra Products to make sure they are ready to be shipped to retailers around the world. That means the Ultra X3 2000W PSU will be available to consumers sometime in Q1 2007.”
There is still no recommended price for Ultra X3 2000W, but you should be able to count on a very high price (+$600?). More information about the power supply can be found at Legit Reviews.
