Component makers in Japan have been put out of action after the earthquake a few weeks ago. We now hear that a price bump of motherboards might be coming after components are running out of stock. This may increase motherboard prices with 3-8% in May.
Several component makers in Japan had their factories damaged in the earthquake and the bleeding nuclear plants have resulted in a power rationing, which has hurt the component makers even more. As the stock runs out components are becoming more expensive and harder to come across.
Exactly what components that are lacking is hard to say, but capacitor maker Nippon Chem-Con is one of those that had to pause their manufacturing. Earlier it has relied on its large stock of component, but with a long and coming power shortage the manufacturers are still having a hard time to match the demand.
