Motorola and Intel has announced that it will work together to make the industry adapt the mobile data transfering technology WiMAX (Worldwide Interoperability for Microwave Access). The technology is based on the IEEE 802.16e standard and compared to regular WiFi the WiMAX technology has a very range. WiMAX signals can reach up to 50km and doesn’t require the sight to be free, which makes it very suitable for creating large wireless networks in cities ad such. You can also use it for IP-telephony and similar. If Intel and Motorola succeeds WiMAX might very well become a very important part of the expansion of wireless networks, which most would consider something very positive. Source: Intel
