MSI adds overclocking to Wind netbooks

As a bonus for all MSI Wind owners, MSI has released an updated BIOS that enables something not often seen with notebooks; overclocking. Adjusting the processor frequency is often used to prolong the battery time. You can do this either by lowering the bus speed or the multiplier, but this also has the negative effect of crippled performance. The potential offered by Intel’s new Atom CPU will now be unleashed by pressing Fn+F10, and overclock the processor to 1728-, 1840- or 1984 MHz. The overclocking should be used carefully though, notebooks have never been very good at removing heat.

It is presumed that overclocking should only be done when connected to an outlet. When on battery the overclocking won’t work, which is anything but a good sign for the effect it may have on the battery time. It’s not the first overclockable notebook we’ve seen, and we are certainly expecting more in the future. We will keep you posted on this rather unorthodox kind of overclocking as we here more about it.
