MSI has presented a new motherboard using Intel’s P55 chipset and it couldn’t hold it any longer. The new communication interfaces USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps have been too hard to resist and it has now launched its first motherboard supporting both of them. MSI P55-GD85 boasts 8+2 phase DrMOS power supply, four DDR3 memory slots and two PCIe x16 slots for SLI or CrossFireX configurations.
The board uses the familiar PLX PEX8608 bridge chip for extra PCI Express lanes, which results in enough bandwidth to keep the hungry USB 3.0 and SATA 6Gbps controllers happy. A solution we’ve also seen with ASUS P5P55D Premium.
MSI has blessed the board with the regular assortment of connectors and such we are used to seeing. Including 8 channel audio, eSATA ports, OC Genie and reading spots for various voltages. When MSI P55-GD85 lands on the shelves and at what price is uncertain at this point.
