MSI P45-8D Memory Lover takes advantage of the fact that the P45 chipset supports both DDR2 and DDR3 in lengths not seen before. MSI has namely equipped the motherboard with no less than 8 memory slots, not to fit 32GB DDR2 memory on there but very well 4 memory modules of either kind. Thus the motherboard supports up to 16GB DDR2 or 8GB DDR3.
