Israeli company Lucid presented the universal multi-GPU Hydra Engine last year. With a Lucid Hydra Engine on board the system could connect not only different graphics circuits but also circuits with completely different architectures, even from different companies. Since Lucid’s chip balances the load between the graphics cards it can pair cards from both AMD and NVIDIA in the same system and get the most from both cards.

So far most of the presentations have been behind locked doors, but there have been rumors of the first products coming soon. MSI has a motherboard called Big Bang in development and it has now been sighted sporting Hydra Engine on the circuit board.

The motherboard use the Intel P55 chipset but also house a Lucid Hydra Engine chip in the middle of the motherboard. The circuit is located between the processor socket and the upper PCI Express slot, where the northbridge used to sit.

Exactly which version of Hydra Engine MSI has used with Big Bang we don’t know but it certainly looks like an interesting addition to the P55 assortment. Hydra Engine will work as expected though, if we’re to believe sources to IOpanel, which has also published pictures of the board.
