Motherboard manufacturer MSI has been talking X-Slim notebooks for a long time now, and we’re finally approaching the availability date. MSI has announced that the first model will be MSI X340, based on the all new Intel CULV platform (Consumer Ultra Low Voltage). MSI presented X340 in detail and with 13″ widescreen display it is between 6mm and 19.8mm thin. It weighs only 1.3kg with 4 cell  battery that should be enough for a couple of hours even if there is an 8 cell battery as an option.

Intel’s SU3500 processor operates at 1.4GHz and maximal power TDP of 5.5W, making the computer really power efficient, which is really the whole idea of the CULV platform.

MSI has revealed that it will start shipping the first X340 computer in just a week. Unfortunately only in the USA, but as the first CULV-based notebook MSI X340 is a highly interesting product in many ways.

ASUS has revealed that it will present similar notebooks and we have heard rumors of others having similar plans for Intel’s CULV platform.
