MSI X38 Diamond will sport some new features

The latest generation of P35 motherboards have introduced a number of new and quite interesting features, among other the possibility to use both DDR2 and DDR3 modules with the same board, although not at the same time. The heatpipe usage has also escalated with the latest generation of chispets and we’ve seen some rather extreme cooling solutions. It seems that MSI will continue down the same path with its coming X38 Diamond as bit-tech reports that MSI’s coming board will bring a number of new features, amongst other a new cooling called Circu-Pipe Liquid. The name perhas implies a mix of heatpipes and water cooling, a bit like the ASUS Blitz Extreme.

This board will also have both DDR2 and DDR3 ports and a four-phase dual channel PWM (Pulse-Width Modulation). Exactly what this means is uncertain, but may be a hint of the mosfet and choke design.

The board also has four full-length PCIe slots, but only two of them have full PCIe x16 bandwidth. The remaining two work through an external chip with x4 bandwidth each. This has in turn forced MSI to reduce the number of PCI slots to only one. bit-tech has also posted a picture of a preproduction sample board without the new cooling.
