NAND flash on the move

NAND-flash for permanent storage is not something new, but the development has been moving fast forward lately and we are closer than evern to eliminating one of the last mechanical parts of the computer. We will first of all see this with laptops since these don’t have the same demand for storage capacity as with desktops, but we still have some time left until we’re there. Right now the density of the NAND circuits for each year, which means that we this year should see 8 Gigabit chips, I.e. single chips that can store 1 GB, and considering that the NAND price have been dropping fast lately we can hope for a consumer Solid State market taking shape in a couple of years.
