DisplayPort is said to be the PC equivalent of HDMI, a convenient and high performance alternative to the aging DVI technology. DisplayPort is tailored for computers in the way that it transfers only video, not audio, which HDMI can do. The standard is developed by VESA and is supported by several large PC builders, but the assortment of DisplayPort products is pretty slim. NEC has has improved things a bit with a new 23″ LCD monitor.

NEC MultiSync EA231WMi use the all more popular 16:9 format and not surprisingly 1920×1080 pixel resolution.

It’s not a gamer monitor nor a monitor for the movie aficionado with 14ms response time, but with 3000:1 contrast ratio the monitor is more than well suited for the office or the surf PC. The brightness can automatically adjust between three different settings depending on the environment, which not only improves usability but also power consumption, says NEC.

Other functions include DVI and VGA connectors, integrated speakers with headphone output, 4-port USB hub and 4-way adjustable monitor stand.

The price is around $380 and it should appear sometime next month.
