NEC recently launched a new LCD monitor which uses a somewhat odd 25.5″ panel. The monitor is called NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi and the panel is an H-IPS and comes from Mitsubishi. It comes with a resolution of 1920×1200 pixels, a contrast ratio at 800:1 and a brightness at 400cd/m2. NEC hasn’t geared this monitor toward the regular consumers, but the professional market, which you can easily see when you look at the connections; two HDCP-capable DVI inputs and one D-SUB15 (VGA) input. What makes this monitor special is that it uses 12-bit look-up tables, which results in better color reproduction.

The monitor simply has more colors to choose from even if the final number of displayed colors are the same. This is important for those who are working with photo and video editing, but it wouldn’t hurt when playing games, and such, though. The price will most likely discourage most regular users though as you will have to cough up 2,000 USD to get a NEC MultiSync LCD2690WUXi. The monitor will arrive on January 12 in Japan.
