PlayStation 3 is only two weeks away from Europe and even if the longing for the console hasn’t been made any easier by the console collecting dust on store shelves on the other continents, the version that will come to Europe will be different from the others. The European version will be the first to use software for emulating PlayStation 2 games, instead of an integrated Emotion Engine. The transition to software was expected to happen sooner or later and now it seems that the future American and Japanese consoles will use software emulation instead. This means that Sony will be able to cut costs and if this will result in price cuts remains to be seen, it depends on whether Sony (price cuts) or Sony Computer Entertainment (no price cuts) gets to decide.
