As our storage needs increase so does the popularity of network-based storage solutions, and Microsoft’s Windows Home Servers is one solution. Intel’s processor platforms can be found in many of the Home Servers that are already available lately the energy efficient Atom processor has been prioritized. Intel has now presented a set of new Home Server platforms sporting the next generation Atom CPU.

They sneak-started with a mini-ITX board called “Bandon” sporting Pineview Atom CPU with up to four SATA 300 ports through the ICH9R southbridge. The integrated graphics circuit also enables the use of a LCD monitor.

Even more interesting is Intel’s “Little Butte” platform that use a so called 3.5″ format to match the size of the harddrives of a Home Server. Intel has developed this platform together with Gigabyte and with Intel’s Pineview Atom processors it should be able to develop some really small Home Servers with low power consumption.

They’ve shared a product diagram that in detail explain how they intend to change the Home Server platform.
