nForce 4 SLI X16 – Better PCIe slots!

0

nForce 4 SLI X16 is nVidia’s latest addition to the chipsetmarket and as the name implies it is primarily a handling of PCIe graphic cards that uses PCIe x16-slots. Earlier when using SLI-configurations you have had to settle for two 8x PCIe slots for each card, they split the 16x that was dedicated for the PCIe-graphic. nForce 4 SLI X16 is better equipped and offers full 16x-bandwidth for both cards in a SLI-system. So far this will give no increase in performance but it opens up new doors and at the same time slaps around ATi’s Crossfire which only supports 2*8x. It is this chipset that is being used by Dell in its Intel-based XPS 600-system. Anandtech has made a preview of the chipset where you can find more information.
