Nintendo and VP Satoru Iwata have made an official announcement where they said that they will increase the production rate even further and ship even larger volumes of Wii in May. Iwata said that Nintendo had been unable to meet the large demand, which was been very unfortunate for both Nintendo and the buyers. Nintendo sold a total of 5.84 million Wiis up until April 1 and is counting on selling another 14 million during this fiscal year. He did not specify how many more consoles that will be shipped or how much they will increase the production rate with, just that the number of consoles will be significantly larger.
