Nintendo Wii has been enriched with a couple of different mod chip since the launch and even if this can be considered a positive development, Nintendo is of a different opinion. Just like Microsoft’s ever increasing anti-modification struggle, Nintendo has made an attempt to prevent consumers from using mod chips with their Wii video game consoles. Unlike Microsoft that has used software for punishing all sinners, and some more, Nintendo has been revising its hardware. It has started shipping Wii consoles in Japan where there are changes to motherboard, which in turn renders current mod chips useless.
By the looks of it, Nintendo has only changed the Japanese version of the console, but we wouldn’t be surprised if this will happen to the rest as well. More information and a photo of the new circuit board can be found at Wii-news.
