Mobile phone giant Nokia presented it’s first notebooks a while ago. Nokia Booklet 3G falls into the netbook category for most people, perhaps mainly because of the Intel Atom-processor, 720p display and support for most wireless network standards. At the Nokia World 09 event more details were revealed and we learn that it will indeed sport Windows 7 to boot.
This is one of few netbooks that have been officially confirmed to ship with Windows 7, which we’re certain Microsoft is happy about as it never was even remotely closed to get Windows Vista to run on netbooks, for obvious reasons.
Beside the 1.6GHz Atom processor, 1GB DDR2 memory and 120GB harddrive, the battery time is the most impressive bit as Nokia specifies it to 12 hours with a massive 16 cell battery. All this squeezed into a quite slim format, Booklet 3G is only 2cm thick.
Exactly how well Nokia has managed to build its first “netbook” remains to be seen, but on paper they have done most things right. At the same time it will be the real test for Windows 7 to see if it can really work on an Atom-based netbook.
The price of Booklet 3G will probably be its biggest drawback, near 575€.
