Mobile World Congress usually brings a couple of interesting launches, and we earlier reported about the new Sony Ericsson Xperia X1, a device build for both communication and multimedia. Nokia has no intention of being worse and has announced the Nokia N96. N96 sports 16GB internal storage, Micro SDHC slot (up to 8GB), DVB-H TV receiver, 2.8″ display with 320x200px resolution, Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, A-GPS and a 5 megapixel camera. Other than that, the specifications are quite similar to those of N95. The design has been improved though, and the phone is a bit slimmer now.

The 950 mAh battery is capable of the following:

  • Talk time: GSM 220 min, UMTS 150 min
  • Stand-by time: GSM 220 hours, UMTS 200 hours
  • Video playback: Up to 5 hours (in offline mode)
  • Music playback: Up to 14 hours (in offline mode)
  • TV Play: Up to 4 hours (DVB-H)

The phone is based on Symbian S60 3rd Edition with Feature Pack 2 and supports quite a lot of media formats: MPEG-4 Part 2 (H.263/SP), MPEG-4 Part 10 (H.264/SP), Windows Media Video (WMV9), Real Video (QCIF), OMA DRM 1, OMA DRM 2, WM DRM (Windows Media DRM), MP3, AAC, eAAC + and WMA. And if that’s not enough you can always turn on the RDS radio.
