NVIDIA is, like the most of us, waiting for AMD to launch Radeon HD 6800, but as the direct competitor to NVIDIA’s baby GeForce GTX 460 it decided to make an preemptive attack by lowering the price of the top model GeForce GTX 460 1GB.
NVIDIA has lowered the price of GeForce GTX 460 1GB to 199.99 USD, while also lowering the price of GeForce GTX 470 to 259.99 USD.
Through NVIDIA’s partners we have received information that GeForce GTX 465 and GeForce GTX 470 are only out there to fill the void. The cards are selling poorly and are too inefficient to tackle even GeForce GTX 460, even though it is overall slower from factory.
Even if NVIDIA hasn’t made any official price cuts of GeForce GTX 460 768MB it points out that these cards can already be found in stores for less than the recommended price of 169.99 USD.
AMD’s prices of Radeon HD 6800 series will be in direct competition with NVIDIA’s prices of GeForce GTX 460, but the first weeks after launch will probably see a lot of variation, depending on demand and how the cards are received by the media.
What we can say for certain is that the consumers are the big winners this fall as they will be able to buy a lot of performance for little money, no matter if they choose AMD or NVIDIA.
