We can now be more than fairly certain that the upcoming G92 will be a mid-range chip and that it will fill the void between the current 8800 GTS and 8600 GTS. The performance gap between them is quite large at the moment and has recently resulted in a boost of sales of last gen high-end cards. They lack the DirectX 10 support, but offers a lot better performance at a very affordable price. VR-Zone now reports that the G92 will be named 8700 GTS, which pretty much fixates the new chip in between the G80 and G84. The 8700 GTS is expected to sport a 256-bit bus, 512 MB (up to) 900 MHz GDDR3, and run at speeds up to 740 MHz.
