NVIDIA has officially launched its new series of mobile graphics circuits; GeForce 8M. As the name implies this is a series based on the G80 architecture, which means DirectX 10 support and advanced video playback features. The two first circuits of the series are called GeForce 8600M and GeForce 8400M, and according to NVIDIA its new mobile circuits with a unified shader architecture will offer twice the performance of current models. NVIDIA’s mobile GeForce 8 series also sports PureVideo HD and PowerMizer, where the latter is for optimizing and lowering the power consumption.

“The new GeForce 8M Series GPUs are ushering in the new generation of Vista notebook PCs,” said Rene Haas, General Manager of the notebook GPU business at NVIDIA. “The new notebooks with support for Windows Vista’s Premium, DirectX 10 and HD video playback, will help consumers enjoy the new era of visually rich content as it was meant to be experienced.”

NVIDIA has timed the launch of GeForce 8M with Intel’s launch of Santa Rosa, which we reported about yesterday and there will be more than plenty of laptops sporting both. At Anandtech they’ve compiled a short preview of the GeForce 8M series where you can find out more about the various circuits specifications and such. More information can be found at NVIDIA’s website.
