Samsung introduced two new mobile phones in Italy before the football World Cup began this summer. The two models were P910 and P920, both has support for DVB-H or in other words Digital Video Broadcasting – Handheld. Which is, just as it sounds, a digital video standard for handheld units, such as mobile phones. To be able to play digitalTV in a mobile phone one needs some real calculating power and now NVIDIA has announced in a press release that Samsung used their handheld graphics unit the GoForce 5500 both in the P910 as the P920.
“NVIDIA’s GoForce GPU uses hardware acceleration to render the TV image in your phone, which gives both higher image quality as well as improves battery time compared to phones that use software rendering”.
The fact that handheld digital TV is going to increase in popularity is hardly undoubtable and according to NVIDIA the introduction in Italy has been very positive. However the fact that Italy and Gli Azzurri won the World Cup and the effects it might have had, we’ll leave that out of consideration.
