There’s most likely no other company that has such high-set goals as NVIDIA. The GPU and chipset developer has grown to become a force to reckon with and fears no one, not even Intel. NVIDIA is currently trying to make its GPUs even more flexible and suitable for more than just 3D, GPGPU is the next big thing from NVIDIA. In the meantime, NVIDIA has been said to be interested in CPU and chipset manufacturer VIA Technologies.
Exactly how and what is happening remains uncertain, but a cooperation or acquisition is not out of the question, even though VIA has denied any such thing. This will not result in NVIDIA getting an X86 license though, because the license will expire and not transfer to the new owner.
