Last week we reported about how a user had managed to use two GeForce 7900GTX cards in SLI with a i975X-based motherboard with the help of modified drivers. This was quite an achievement, but the fact that a user called Coolaler has now displayed an SLI system with an ATI RD580-based motherboard has to be considered even more exciting. Coolaler has taken DFI’s latest creation, DFI CFX3200, and paired this with two GeForce 7600GT video cards in a SLI setup. Coolaler has compared this configuration’s performance with a number of platforms but alas not an NVIDIA-based motherboard.
Just the fact that he has been able to activate SLI with an ATI motherboard is a very interesting happening, unfortunately Coolaler hasn’t shared any information regarding how he achieved this. But we assume we will hear more about this soon, if nothing else ATI and NVIDIA will make sure this you can’t activate one another’s multi-GPU technology with eachother’s boards.
